Terms of Use

The basics

These terms cover your use of blackbookaudit.com, which is published by The Black Book Audit. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

What the site is

The Black Book Audit is journalism and commentary about public figures and institutions. Every claim we grade carries its sources. A grade is our reading of the public record on one claim. It isn't a legal finding, and it isn't a verdict on anyone's character. Our methodology explains how we grade.

Nothing here is legal, financial or tax advice. Don't make decisions about your money or your legal rights based on this site.

Mistakes

We work to get things right, and we fix what we get wrong. If you think a claim, grade or source is wrong, tell us and point us to the record. We'll look at it, and if we got it wrong we'll correct it.

What you send us

When you send us feedback, a correction or a lead, you give us permission to use it in our reporting. We won't publish your name unless you say we can. Only send what's yours to share, and don't send anything you aren't allowed to disclose.

Our content

The writing, grades, design and compilations on this site belong to The Black Book Audit. You can quote short passages with a link back to the page. Please don't republish whole pages or copy the database without asking. Quotes and documents from other people belong to them. We use them to report and comment on them.

Links

We link to court records, government filings, news reports and other outside sites. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for them. Book links go to Amazon, and as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Things not to do

Don't use the site to break the law. Don't try to get into areas that aren't public, don't overload or attack the site, and don't use our forms to send spam.

No guarantees

We provide the site as it is. We do our best, but we can't promise it will always be available, complete or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss that comes from using it or relying on it.

Law

Texas law governs these terms. Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts in Texas.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top. Questions go to hello@blackbookaudit.com.
