Who we are
The Black Book Audit publishes blackbookaudit.com. Questions or requests about your information go to hello@blackbookaudit.com.
We don't sell your information, we don't run ads, and we don't use it for anything beyond what's described here.
What we collect, and why
When you read the site. We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics so we know which pages people read. It does not set cookies on your device. Your browser also remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, in your browser's local storage. That setting never leaves your device.
When you subscribe. We keep your email address, the page you signed up from and the newsletter you picked. We also keep your browser type and a one-way scrambled code made from your IP address (a hash), which helps us block spam signups without storing the address itself. We email you a link to confirm. Nothing goes out until you click it.
When you send feedback or a correction. We keep what you write, the page it's about, your email address if you give one, your browser type and the same scrambled IP code. We email you a link to confirm the submission is yours. We don't publish reader submissions.
When you contact us or offer a lead. Your name, email and message are emailed to our inbox. They aren't saved in our database. To confirm the email address is yours, we send a six-digit code; a scrambled copy of the code is kept for 15 minutes and then deleted. If you send us a lead and ask not to be named, we won't name you.
Email isn't a secure channel. If what you have could put you at risk, tell us that first and keep the details out of the first message.
Spam protection. Our forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that you're a person. Cloudflare sees your request to do that check.
Who handles it for us
We use a handful of services to run the site. Each one handles your information only to do its job for us:

Book links go to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Once you're on Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice applies and Amazon may set its own cookies. We don't see who you are or what you buy.
How long we keep it
Newsletter signups stay until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your address marked "unsubscribed" so we never email you again by mistake. Feedback is kept while it's useful for corrections. Ask and we'll delete any of it, completely.
Your choices
Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link. Wherever you live, you can email hello@blackbookaudit.com to see what we hold about you, fix it, or have it deleted. We'll answer within 30 days.
Children
This site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change affects how we use the information you've already given us, we'll email subscribers first.
