The Only Donor.
A PAC is supposed to pool money from many. 'Texas PAC' has exactly one donor — and behind it, one man writing $158 million in checks to rescue one scandal-plagued candidate.
Elon Musk gave $158M to the Senate Leadership Fund in Q3 2026; SLF routed it into a new vehicle, 'Texas PAC,' of which SLF is the sole funder, and spent $159M+ boosting Ken Paxton's Senate bid — one donor, through two PACs, behind one candidate.
The money flow graded FACT; 'corruption' posed, not asserted — unlimited super-PAC giving is legal, and that is the point, not a defense.
$158 million, in two checks.
FEC filings show Musk gave the Senate Leadership Fund $75M on Sept 9, 2026 and $83M about two weeks later — $158M total, making him by far its largest donor as SLF posted a record ~$273M quarter. Each time, SLF moved the money the next day into a new vehicle, Texas PAC.
Texas PAC: a committee with one donor.
Texas PAC's only reported source of funds is the Senate Leadership Fund, which seeded it with Musk's money and used it to book $159M+ in ads for Paxton. A 'PAC' whose entire bankroll comes from one other PAC, filled by one man, names everyone on paper while obscuring the plain reality: Musk's money, Musk's candidate, two PAC names in between.
The candidate being rescued.
Ken Paxton, challenging Sen. John Cornyn in the 2026 GOP primary, carries a 2015 securities-fraud indictment (resolved via a 2024 deal), a 2023 impeachment by the Republican-led Texas House over bribery/abuse-of-office allegations (acquitted by the state Senate), and a whistleblower suit by his own former deputies. We state the documented record and attach no label it doesn't support.
The pattern: the richest man, buying races.
In 2024 Musk became the largest single disclosed donor in US politics, pouring ~$290M into electing Trump and others via America PAC and running a cash-giveaway scheme to voters that drew legal challenges. The Paxton operation is the same playbook at the scale of one Senate primary: a fortune big enough to decide, on its own, who gets a nine-figure air war.
How this page is graded.
- FACT: the $158M Musk gave SLF in Q3 2026 ($75M + $83M); SLF routing it into Texas PAC (its sole funder) and spending $159M+ on Paxton; and Paxton's documented record (2015 indictment, 2023 impeachment/acquittal, whistleblower suit).
- SOME SMOKE (posed): that this is 'corruption.' Unlimited giving to independent-expenditure PACs and transfers between them are legal post-Citizens United; the judgment that one billionaire funding a Senate seat is incompatible with self-government is the open question the structure forces, not a finding of law-breaking.
- NOT claimed: that anyone broke the law; that SLF has no other donors (it raised money from many — but Texas PAC's money is SLF's, and the quarter's SLF money was overwhelmingly Musk's); or the unsourced epithets that travel with the story.
Why it matters.
Representative government promises that a Senate seat answers to a state's voters. This shows how thoroughly one fortune can set the terms before most voters tune in: one man funds one PAC that funds one candidate's nine-figure air war, and the law records every step while the substance — one person deciding — disappears into the paperwork. The thing actually distorting American elections isn't the vanishingly rare illegal ballot; it's the entirely legal ability of the very rich to buy the field.
