The Blue-Eyed Files.
He was a convicted sex trafficker. He also kept a framed wall of prosthetic eyeballs, catalogued 70 scientists and tech billionaires by eye color, and planned to impregnate 20 women at a time to seed the human race with his DNA. The appetite and the ideology were the same thing.
Scoped to the verified, highly weird core of the Epstein files: his documented eugenics / 'designer-race' ideology. In his own emails he boasted 'All of my fundees have blue eyes'; the DOJ files hold a list of ~70 scientists and tech leaders he annotated by eye color (Musk, Thiel, Kurzweil named); in Aug 2018 he was corresponding about funding 'designer babies' and human cloning; and the NYT reported in 2019 that he wanted to 'seed the human race' with his DNA by impregnating 20 women at a time at his New Mexico ranch, and to freeze his head and penis so his genes could outlive him.
GRADING. FACT: the 'blue eyes' boast + the framed prosthetic eyeballs + the ~70-name annotated list (EFTA01192599); the Bryan Bishop designer-baby/cloning correspondence (EFTA02625362, EFTA01004839 — 'garage biology' to 'a human clone within 5 years,' Ukraine lab, Epstein's 'no issue investing; the problem is only if I am seen to lead'); the NYT-reported seed-the-race plan (four sources, 20 women, 'super race') and the cryonics detail. PROBABLY TRUE / posed: the synthesis that the trafficking and the breeding project are one eugenics ideology (strongest reading of a consistent record, not a fact inside his head). HARD FENCES: no evidence the breeding plan was carried out; the cloning venture was a proposal/correspondence, not a built lab or a born child; being ON Epstein's list (Musk/Thiel/Kurzweil/scientists) is NOT complicity — the list is his annotation, evidence about HIM; victims stay victims; one man's ideology, nothing about any group.
'All of my fundees have blue eyes' — and a framed wall of eyeballs to match.
Documented in his own words and his own décor. Epstein boasted in an email that everyone he funded had blue eyes, and kept dozens of prosthetic eyeballs framed in his Manhattan townhouse entryway. Among the DOJ's released files is a list of ~70 scientists and tech leaders annotated person-by-person by eye color, with his own tally — 'Total — 70 people Blue eyes — 41 Unclear (might be blue, but not 100% sure)' — naming Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and Ray Kurzweil. He sent contacts articles asking whether blue eyes meant higher intelligence or 'genius.' The list is Epstein's annotation: evidence about what HE believed, not about the people named.
He put money toward 'designer babies' and human cloning — and worried only about being seen.
In Aug 2018, ten years after his first conviction, Epstein corresponded with programmer Bryan Bishop about funding genetic enhancement, germline editing, embryo implantation, and cloning. Bishop sent a 'use of funds' spreadsheet for 'the designer baby and human cloning company,' pitching it as the step from 'self-funded garage biology' to 'the first live birth of a human designer baby, and possibly a human clone, within 5 years.' He referenced a Ukraine lab and 'more mouse testing.' Epstein's hesitation was reputational, not ethical: 'no issue with investing; the problem is only if I am seen to lead,' asking to be first investor 'as long as absolute anonymity is kept.' FENCE: this is a proposal/correspondence — no evidence he wrote the check or that any baby or clone resulted. What's FACT is a convicted trafficker seriously discussing bankrolling human engineering, worried only about his name.
He planned to 'seed the human race' with his DNA — 20 women at a time, at Zorro Ranch.
Years before the files, the NYT reported the core (Jul 31, 2019), from four people who heard him directly starting in the early 2000s: Epstein told scientists and advisers he wanted to seed the human race with his DNA by impregnating women at Zorro Ranch, his New Mexico estate. Technologist Jaron Lanier recounted a scientist telling him the goal was 20 women pregnant at the ranch at a time. Some who heard it privately called it a plan for a 'super race.' Graded as his stated, reported intention — described to named people — and fenced the way the Times did: no evidence it was ever carried out.
It was a whole worldview — down to freezing himself to outlast death.
The same NYT reporting carried the detail that turns a fixation into a philosophy: Epstein wanted his head and penis frozen through cryonics so his DNA might outlive him, and was fascinated by transhumanism and 'improving' the species. Beside the blue-eye list and the cloning money, the freezing is not a stray eccentricity — it's of a piece with a consistent belief that he was genetic raw material worth propagating and the species was his to upgrade. That consistency is why 'eugenicist' is the accurate word, not an insult. We grade the individual reported statements FACT; the synthesis (one coherent ideology) we POSE as the strongest reading.
The respectable world took the meeting.
The most documented part. Epstein didn't mutter this in isolation: he was for years the single largest donor to John Brockman's Edge Foundation (dinners with Bezos, Brin, Musk), gave Harvard millions, and was close to MIT AI pioneer Marvin Minsky — hosting the scientific and tech elite while he talked openly about a superior race. Geneticist George Church publicly apologized for continuing to meet him. We detail the money and proximity in the companion piece, The Philanthropist of the Future. FENCE (same one that piece holds): funding and proximity are not complicity, and most named are not accused of his crimes or beliefs. The point is institutional — who gets humored, and hosted, when he's rich enough.
The line we hold.
- FACT: 'All of my fundees have blue eyes' (his own email); dozens of prosthetic eyeballs framed in his townhouse; a ~70-name list annotated by eye color — 'Total — 70 people Blue eyes — 41 Unclear' — naming Musk, Thiel, Kurzweil (DOJ file EFTA01192599).
- FACT: Aug 2018 correspondence with Bryan Bishop to fund 'the designer baby and human cloning company' — 'garage biology' to 'a human clone within 5 years,' a Ukraine lab, 'more mouse testing' (DOJ files EFTA02625362, EFTA01004839). Epstein: 'no issue investing; the problem is only if I am seen to lead.'
- FACT: he told scientists he wanted to 'seed the human race' with his DNA — 20 women at a time at Zorro Ranch, a 'super race' (NYT, four sources, 2019); and wanted his head and penis frozen so his genes could outlive him.
- POSED (PROBABLY TRUE): the trafficking and the breeding project are two faces of one eugenics ideology — treating human beings as biological instruments to be selected, used, and 'improved.' The strongest reading of a consistent record, not a fact inside his head.
- FENCE: no evidence the breeding plan was carried out; the cloning venture never got past correspondence. Being ON Epstein's list is NOT complicity — it's his annotation, evidence about HIM; we accuse no one named of sharing his ideology. The victims remain victims; this is one man's belief system, nothing about any group.
Why it matters.
To be fair: this wasn't buried — the NYT reported the seed-the-race plan in 2019 and a few outlets wrote up the designer-baby files when they dropped. The honest complaint is how SMALL a part of Epstein it became. We remember the client list and the island; the eugenics project that ties his crimes together barely registers, though it's in the government's own files. Why it matters is what it changes about the question. If Epstein was only a predator, he's a closed case — a monster who died in a cell. If he was a predator with a money-backed plan to engineer a 'superior' human stock, courted by and courting the people now actually building the future of biotech and AI, then the live question isn't just what he did — it's what the appetite to 'improve' humanity looks like once it has money and a lab, and who's still carrying a gentler, better-funded version of it. Strip the money away and this is a man posting on a forum; add the money, and respectable institutions host him. That's where dangerous ideas get their oxygen.
