Make America Healthy Again?
A movement named for health is presiding over the return of diseases we had beaten, the gutting of the agencies that fight them, and a quiet handoff of the science to the military and Silicon Valley. What is it actually optimizing for?
FACT
§2 · Thesis
A health department that fires its vaccine scientists while measles kills children, shrinks pandemic defense during outbreaks, and cuts the highest-return prevention is doing something — but it's hard to call it improving the nation's health.
The record is FACT (ACIP purge, measles, NIH diversion, prevention cuts, the donor 'AI beats doctors' vision). The 'why' — including the coldest reading that the vulnerable are being left to die — is posed as THE QUESTION in editorial voice, never graded as fact. We can't see intent; we document the pattern.
The number
17 → 0the vaccine committee, fired whole
on June 9, 2025, RFK Jr's HHS removed all 17 members of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices — the panel that sets the US vaccine schedule — and pledged to replace them with his own picks.

§5 · Graded Claim
RFK Jr's HHS fired every member of the CDC's vaccine advisory committee.
FACT
June 9, 2025: Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. removed all 17 members of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which sets the US vaccine schedule and shapes coverage, pledging to install his own picks. HHS called it 'restoring public trust'; major physician and public-health groups condemned it as an unprecedented purge.
§5 · Graded Claim
Measles came back to a 35-year high — with dead children.
FACT
The US eliminated measles in 2000. In 2025 it recorded ~2,300 confirmed cases — the most since 1991 — with a West Texas outbreak that killed two children, concentrated in under-vaccinated communities; elimination status was at risk, and 2026 climbed higher. CDC ties the resurgence to falling vaccination. A disease we had beaten is killing kids again, amid a campaign questioning the vaccines that beat it.
§5 · Graded Claim
Pandemic-preparedness is being pulled back — and its money routed to the Pentagon.
FACT
NIH/NIAID leadership argued in 2026 for dropping biodefense and pandemic prep from the agency's remit, then signed an interagency agreement routing NIAID money to the Department of Defense to fund that research, over appropriators' objections. Whatever the intent, civilian pandemic-defense capacity is shrinking — during active outbreaks and heading into flu season.
§5 · Graded Claim
Prevention that pays for itself was cut anyway — and a top donor wants a chatbot to replace doctors.
FACT
The CDC's childhood lead-poisoning program — high documented return per dollar — was eliminated and left defunded in 2025. Meanwhile Marc Andreessen, whose circle funded the administration, wrote that 'AI is already a better doctor than 99.99% of human doctors.' (Honesty note: the viral '$100M from Andreessen' overstates it — FEC filings show ~$2.5M each to a pro-Trump PAC, ~$39M combined estimated; the larger figure folds in the a16z crypto PAC.) Hollow out the public system and the private 'Dr. ChatGPT' future has the market.
§7 · Why it matters now
If not health, then what?
Line the record up and a reasonable person is entitled to ask what it's for. Several explanations compete — ideology (a sincere distrust of institutions), austerity and grift (capacity starved to be cut or redirected), a business model (a tech-right that says AI will replace doctors), and the coldest reading, impossible to prove: that someone has decided the weak, old, and sick aren't worth the cost. We do NOT assert that motive — we can't see intent. But the record raises it, and it echoes the 'burden' logic in The Productivity Test. We carry MAHA's real concerns (ultra-processed food, chronic disease) too. The gap between the name and the numbers is the story.
